Possible changes to Flintshire bin collections have prompted concerns about fly-tipping.

The Leader reported on Thursday how Flintshire bin collections could become monthly in a bid to achieve recycling targets.

Flintshire Council is looking at potential moves to three-weekly or even monthly black bin collections when its Environment and Economy scrutiny committee looks at its Waste Strategy next week (Tuesday, January 10).

Larger black bins or sacks could be provided should Flintshire Council eventually move to less frequent collections and residents also look set to be hit with a garden waste charge increase.

Leader readers took to Facebook to have their say on the potential changes.

Joanne Curtis posted: "Ridiculous suggestion. There’s enough fly tipping as it is!"

Rachel Booth said: "No way I’d manage! Family of six already and been refused a larger bin."

Andrew Lindop said: "Flintshire residents waste could therefore move to the River Dee, Charmleys Lane and Wepre Park weekly or daily.

"I reckon I could manage monthly but thousands won't. Need more recycling bags or better still, proper bins or containers."

Claire Williams said: "Be prepared for fly tipping then."

Craig Hunter said: "I live in Flintshire. We already maximise our recycling - everything that possibly can go in the recycling does and that gets collected every week.

"The black bin is just right for our waste, we fill it every two weeks.

"If we go to three weeks collection our bin will end up over full.

"Fortnightly general waste collection is just right. Money the council save in reducing the frequency of the general waste collection will be used to clean up the increasing occurrences of fly tipping."

Steve Carney posted: "The problem is not enough people are recycling.

"Fine those who contaminate “waste” with recyclable waste and the problem will soon go away. There’s more than enough recycling bags/boxes for all our needs."

Gaynor Shaw said: "The fly tipping will be very bad if they do this."
Samantha Williams added: "If you use recycle bags you shouldn’t have a full bin."

Arfor Val Griffiths said: "Oh good, will there be something off the council tax?"
