Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman has asked the Academy Awards to not “validate” Ryan Reynolds with an Oscar nomination in a hilarious video.
The Logan actor, who is known for his back-and-forth banter with the Wrexham AFC co-owner, has taken to social media after a song from the film Spirited starring Ryan was shortlisted for a nomination.
In the video, Hugh said: “Hey everybody. It's 2023 and I really really wanted to send out a positive message at the beginning of the year, but recent events have made that impossible.
“Don’t get me wrong, I loved Spirited. It’s a great movie, we had a blast the entire family watched it. I love Will (Ferrell), I love Octavia (Spencer). Obviously, I did the Greatest Showman with Benj (Pasek) and Justin (Paul), they’re incredible and I loved their music.”

He went on to say he laughed the entire way through the song Good Afternoon, which was included in the Academy Awards shortlist for the Best Song category.
However, it seems that the actor is not fond of the idea of an Oscar-nominated Ryan Reynolds.

He said: “Now, Ryan Reynolds getting a nomination in the Best Song category would make the next year of my life insufferable.”
He explained: “I have to spend the year with him shooting Wolverine and Deadpool and trust me it would be impossible; it would be a problem.”
He added: “Please, please from the bottom of my heart do not validate Ryan Reynolds in this way. Please. ”
Ryan responded to the plea on Twitter, saying: “Disagree. I think the deepfakes that sung and danced for Will and I would love to perform at the Oscars.”
He added: “Also “Wolverine and Deadpool”, bub?”
Hugh replied: “It’s catchy, right!?”
The Academy Awards nominations will be announced on January 24, when it will be known if Ryan will indeed be ‘validated’.
