A BRIGHTLY coloured procession of 100 tractors will drive through villages in rural Wrexham to raise funds for local charities, including Nightingale House Hospice.

The event, organised by Brian Jones, Sophie Mottershead, Wendy Jones and Carys Studley, will run on Friday, December 23. It will start and finish by the Hanmer Junction of the A525 and A539, with the vehicles lit and up and decorated with Christmas lights and decorations.

It will cost just £10 to enter the event, now in its second year. Thousands of pounds were raised for charities last year.

Leaving at 6pm, the convoy will go through Tallarn Green, Worthenbury, Bangor on Dee, Overton, Penley, Horsemans Green, Hanmer, Bettisfield and Bronington.

To enter, tractor drivers need to go to Brian’s Christmas Tractor Run on Facebook or email brianstractorrun@hotmail.com. The closing date is December 22.

There will also be a prize for the best decorated tractor on the night.

Sophie Mottershead said: “There are so many charities out there doing such incredible work but sometimes it’s so important to support our local charities.

"What a charity does sometimes means more to you due to your own personal experiences, or perhaps you just feel very strongly about those they are helping. That’s why we are making it our mission to raise as much money as we can for the hospice.”

Last year's event saw 70 people take part and £4,000 raised for the hospice.

Sue Williams from the hospice said: “We are very grateful to Brian, Sophie, Carys, and Wendy for organising such an amazing event! Thank you also to the community for choosing Nightingale House Hospice as one of the charities to support. Such a fabulous idea and I am sure the tractors will look spectacular. Thank you so much for raising vital funds for Nightingale House Hospice.”

The hospice has been looking at other ways to keep its finances afloat during this difficult time. Most of its running costs are met through fundraising and other channels of income generation that includes its on-site café and retail outlets that make a significant contribution towards maintaining services for those with life-limiting illnesses within palliative care.

Its services are completely free-of-charge, to patients and their families across Wrexham, Flintshire and east Denbighshire to Barmouth and the border towns including Oswestry and Whitchurch.

It costs £4,041,617 each year to run Nightingale House Hospice.
