Halloween arrived early on S4C's Stwnsh this year with the return of the challenging adventure series, Gwrach y Rhibyn (The Witch of Rhibyn).

But this time, the challenge is even greater than before for four teams, which includes Ysgol Maes Garmon.

It's Dydd y Dychryn (The Day of Horror) once again and the Witch is hunting. The aim is the same for the competitors, to reach a safe shelter before sunset, but this time not everyone will reach the end.

The eight-part series returned to S4C last week, and will run on Thursdays at 5.35pm or online on S4C Clic.

Each team has eight hours to complete seven challenges. The prize for succeeding in each game is a new set of coordinates which will guide them closer to safety.

Ysgol Maes Garmon are represented by pupils Mari, Caitlyn, Lewis and Cadan.

Pupils from Glan y Môr (Gwynedd), Gwent Is Coed (Newport) and Bro Teifi (Ceredigion) comprehensive schools join Ysgol Maes Garmon in a race against time to avoid the Witch.

Series narrator, actress Mali Tudno Jones, said: "The teams are so brave! They have to solve every challenge to find safety and they face extreme challenges such as abseiling waterfalls, white water rafting, climbing, and sea kayaking, all whilst the clock is ticking. And there's more at stake this time, as each team will lose members along the way. No one is safe."

All episodes of Gwrach y Rhibyn are available on S4C Clic and S4C Stwnsh websites and apps now.

Froncysyllte School and Ysgol Yr Garth, part of the Dee Valley Federation of schools, have been learning about harvest festival and decided to do their part and give something back to the local community.

The children and families have donated lots of tins of food and toiletries to give to Wrexham Food Bank.

Last week they walked down to their local church, Saint David's, and took part in a harvest service, led by Rev Matt Wilkinson and Rev Val.

The children had a fantastic time and were proud to give to such a good cause.

The School Council organised a harvest food collection for Flintshire Food Bank. The school would like to say a big thank you to the parents, pupils and staff who donated many essential items.

They dropped off an incredible 105kg of food at the depot in Mold, along with a donation of £110.

Dosbarth Gwdihw created some lovely harvest packages for the residents of retirement housing complex, Griffiths Court, and the children enjoyed delivering the harvest treats to their school neighbour.

• Flint High School

Careers Wales is calling for former pupils of Flint High School to register their interest in supporting young people currently at their school.

The project has been commissioned to be delivered by national careers service, Careers Wales, as part of the Welsh Government's Renew and Reform Covid-19 recovery plan.

The scheme aims to inspire young people and raise their awareness of a wide range of careers opportunities available to them in the local, regional and national job market, as well as the option of self-employment.

Alumni provide added value to careers activities, as pupils can engage with former students of their school with whom they may share similar experiences and have faced the same barriers.

Here are some examples of how students can support their former schools:

• Deliver a presentation about their career

• Attend a careers day at the school

• Help with mock interview activities

• Offer work experience

• Host a site visit

• Produce a vlog about their career journey

Alumni can express their interest and register on Careers Wales' national employer database, the Education Business Exchange at bit.ly/3zuTzg4. Alumni details will be made available to the former school and if an appropriate opportunity is presented, the school will be in touch.

Nikki Lawrence, chief executive at Careers Wales, said: "The need to inspire and motivate our young people is more important than ever.

"We know that young people generate career ideas by whom and what they are exposed to.

"This project will build young people's social capital by introducing them to role models who can inspire, inform, and motivate in relation to career possibilities and opportunities.

"Engaging with successful role models who attended the same school, and likely had similar experiences to current students, is an invaluable source of influence."

Those wishing to support their former school can register their interest by completing the following form: https://forms.office.com/r/YaQiFgb7iV or searching 'Careers Wales alumni'.
