A Wrexham horse owner has expressed his 'anger and worry' after an attempted theft.

The unsuccessful theft attempt occurred on Sunday, October 30, and involved a vehicle ramming into a locked gate in an attempt to steal a horse trailer.

Luckily the horse trailer had a hitch lock meaning the perpetrators were unable to access the trailer although the vehicle caused damage to the gate.

The owner of the trailer, who did not want to be identified, said he was feeling a mixture of "anger and worry as it's not just the horsebox it's also the four horses that [he has]."

He believes it is unclear if the perpetrators were wanting to steal just the trailer or the horses as well.

He added: "We are aware of a lot going on especially after lockdown with even liveries being broken into - it is horrendous."

North Wales Police have released information on the Community Alerts page about the incident.

A spokesperson said: “There was an attempted theft of a horse trailer 30 October from Brymbo, Wrexham.

“A locked gate had been rammed and damaged by a vehicle to gain access into the field. Attempts were made to take the horse trailer but were unsuccessful.

“Both Hitch and wheel locks are a good source of security for any trailers.

“Transport security packs are available from North Wales Horse Watch.”

The horse owner echoed this point, and emplored other horse owners to get sufficient locks and security.

He said: "Everyone should get a lock even if you just have one horse, I would really recommend investing in something."
