ROYAL Mail workers in Wrexham were on the picket line earlier today (Tuesday, October 25) as part of ongoing strike action.

This is part of an extended period of walk-outs concerning pay and working conditions disputes.

In total, workers represented by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) are taking part in 19 days of strike action throughout October and November 2022.

That includes Wrexham, where workers gathered outside the delivery office on regent Street earlier this morning to make their feelings known.

More than 115,000 postal workers are expected to go on strike as the CWU said employees have had a two per cent pay rise imposed upon them – which had not been agreed.

The union is demanding the Royal Mail make “an adequate pay award” to cover the current cost of living increases.

However, the CWU has confirmed it has agreed to enter into talks with Royal Mail through ACAS.

CWU said the Wrexham workers out in force this morning are 'still standing proud with their union'.

Also in Wrexham backing the cause this morning were Plaid Cymru Councillors Carrie Harper and Marc Jones.

They joined the likes of CWU president Jane Loftus on the picket line.

A statement from CWU on the strikes read: "We’ve never seen anything like the picket lines today in the Royal Mail Group dispute. Unbelievable. Humbled."

You can continue to use post boxes during the industrial action, although collections will be limited on those dates, so you should expect delays.

Postal deliveries – and collections from businesses, Post Offices and post boxes – should resume the day after each strike takes place.

A joint-statement from the CWU and Royal Mail read: "Following an invitation from ACAS, Royal Mail and CWU have agreed to jointly engage with ACAS facilitation in an attempt to resolve the current disputes on Pay and Change.

“There is a commitment on both sides to reach a resolution, however we all acknowledge there are significant difficulties to overcome.

“An opening session will now take place on Tuesday, October 25 with the objective to reach an agreed approach for further facilitated talks.”
