A CULT hero of Welsh football has praised the 'incredible' fanbase of Wrexham AFC following a visit to the Racecourse.

Hal Robson-Kanu is of course best known for his iconic cruyff-turn and finish v Belgium at Euro 2016.

That goal sent Wales to the semi-finals of the major tournament which was held in France that year.

On Tuesday evening (October 18), the former Reading and West Bromwich Albion forward, 33, was part of the ESPN team covering the Wrexham v Blyth Spartans match.

The fourth round qualifying match saw the Reds come out on top 3-2 in what was a replay which followed a 1-1 draw at Blyth three days earlier.

That win booked a place in the first round proper, where they will take on Oldham Athletic at the Racecourse ground.

Robson-Kanu was joined by another former Wales footballing hero, Rob Earnshaw, on the ESPN team and sports presenter Kelly Somers.

Wrexham fan Craig Jones took to Twitter to praise Robson-Kanu for the way he stopped to take photos with some fans on the night.

He wrote: "I must also say how kind @RobsonKanu  was having his photo taken with so many Wrexham fans at half time. People started popping up from all over the place but he happily stopped for all of them to have a pic! Top man."

Robson-Kanu replied to the Tweet by saying that Wrexham has 'an incredible fan base'.

One of those to grab a picture a selfie with the former Wales international at the Racecourse was Caroline Loose, who said she just 'had to get a photo with the Wales legend'.

Wrexham AFC themselves took to social media to praise the 'remarkable' support shown during the match.

A crowd of over 6,800 people turned out to watch from the stands - with over 200 of those making the trip down from Blyth.

Next up for the Reds is an away match against Boreham Wood on Saturday, October 22.

Phil Parkinson's side are currently sat in second place in the National League table, just one point behind leaders Notts County.
