A Buckley man who died after an incident last week was stabbed through the heart and lung, it was revealed at the opening of an inquest.

Steven Wilkinson, 23, died at Wrexham Maelor Hospital on October 5 after the incident in Precinct Way, Buckley, the previous night.

At a hearing in Ruthin John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, said that Home Office pathologist Dr Brian Rodgers had given a provisional cause of death as a stab in the chest.

The coroner said he had been notified of Mr Wilkinson’s death by North Wales Police and the hospital’s Emergency Department.

“I am aware it is subject of a criminal investigation and a person has been charged with murder,” he said.

The inquest was adjourned until the criminal proceedings have been concluded.

On Saturday Jamie Scott Mitchell, 24, of Lexham Green Close, Buckley, appeared at Mold Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of Mr Wilkinson, and was remanded to appear at Mold Crown Court tomorrow (Tuesday, October 11).
