A WREXHAM dad has praised emergency teams for their "massive" response after a child fell down an embankment.

The Leader reported earlier how ambulance, search and rescue and fire service teams were called out to Penycae Road in Ruabon, at a location known locally as Rocky Woods, on Monday.

Dad-of-four Anthony Bennion, of Penycae, was helping to turn motorists around up the road from the incident.

The 39-year-old said: "I was getting my dogs ready for a walk and my parasol nearly lifted - there was a big air ambulance flying over my house and landing in the fields at the back.

"I carried on and went for a walk, when I came across an ambulance and police car blocking the road.

"Then a load of mountain rescue workers turned up as I was there.

"It was a massive response; they just kept coming and coming but it was very reassuring knowing they were all there, they were brilliant.

"I stood by the police sign telling cars they couldn't go any further.

"The mountain rescue team was there at least an hour and I saw the little boy coming out on a stretcher.

"It was an awful feeling - everyone just waited."

Looking back on the incident, he said: "It was surreal, like something from a movie.

"And it was such a relief to see they got him out."

NEWSAR confirmed 16 team members were sent to the site with two Landrovers.
