A MAN who celebrated being released from prison by getting "extremely drunk" and hurling abuse at police officers has found himself back behind bars.

Scott Simmonds, of Plas y Wern in Ruabon, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 33-year-old admitted that on Tuesday, at the Coach and Horses Inn at Flint Mountain, he used abusive or offensive language or behaviour, that whilst drunk he was guilty of disorderly behaviour and that he damaged a pub table.

His offences put him in breach of a criminal behaviour order, the court heard - the requirements of which were that he not enter Flint town or be drunk in public.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, said on the day of the offence officers were called to the pub after reports Simmonds was "extremely drunk".

They found the defendant - who is originally from Flint - lying on a couch and tried to wake him, but received shouting and swearing in response.

He refused to give his details, telling officers: "You know who I am - I'm banned from Flint."

He pushed over a bar table, "ripping it from the floor," and was arrested.
Simmonds then hurled homophobic abuse at the officers.

Ceri Lewis, defending, said her client had made full and frank admission about his behaviour when he was interviewed by police.

While he hadn't breached the geographical element of his CBO by being in Flint Mountain, not Flint town, he had been drunk, she conceded.

She said he wished to apologise to the officers and bar staff for the incident, adding: "He had just come out of custody.

"He was released on a Monday, went out to celebrate with a friend in Chester on the Tuesday and had a huge amount of alcohol.

"He had no recollection of going to Flint Mountain.

"He recalls going from Shotton to Chester, then the next thing he's waking up in Llay custody."

District Judge Paul Conlon told the defendant: "You were abusive and swore at the officer and it was within a day or so of being released from a previous similar sentence.

"This is the fifth time you have breached your CBO and it clearly crosses the custody threshold."

The District Judge jailed him for 18 weeks - uplifting the sentence to 20 weeks to reflect the homophobic element of the abuse.

Simmonds must pay £100 compensation to the pub for the damaged table.
