ONE OF British football's longest-standing issues features in the latest episode of Welcome to Wrexham - and it's covered brilliantly by the producers.

Football hooliganism has been a problem within the sport for a number of decades now, with rival gangs (or firms as they're known) often fighting with one another before and after matches.

Episode 10 of Welcome to Wrexham - the hugely popular series following the takeover of Wrexham AFC by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - shines a spotlight on the issue.

That follows trouble which arose at a match between the Reds and Torquay United in October 2021, in which objects were thrown in the crowd.

The series, produced by FX Networks and Rob and Ryan, is being released two episodes at a time every Thursday via Disney Plus (So you can watch 10 and 11 from today onward!)

Here are five things you can expect from the latest episodes of the gripping documentary series.

The dark side of hooliganism

Viewers of the latest episodes will meet Mike Jones, a Wrexham supporter who was attacked by his own fans at a train station on the same day of that Torquay United match at the Racecourse.

He gives a harrowing account of how he was set upon in a 'deliberate unprovoked attack' and how he was left with 'deep tissue damage' as a result.

The result of being in a 'firm'

Episode 10 also features tales from those who have been part of the gang culture within football at Wrexham.

Jonny Taylor was previously part of the 'Wrexham Frontline' and is now banned from being within a mile of the ground two hours before or after a match and is also banned from being in any town centre pub on a matchday.

In his interview, regarding being part of that, he says he 'loved it' and 'made friends for life' and that it was a way to 'let off some steam' to 'forget your week in work'.

It also details the effects that it has had on his long-term girlfriend Saskia Barkley and her career opportunities in a very open and honest way.

Ryan's powerful message

Towards the end of episode 10, the Deadpool star leaves viewers with food for thought as he reveals more about what the overall picture is for his and Rob's takeover project.

Ryan says: "We'll win games, we'll lose games. I understand those absolutely heartbreaking rules of football.

"But the real battle here is not on the pitch, it's in the town. And if we're unable to improve things for the people of Wrexham, if we're unable to inspire them to a better future, then that's a real loss cause that's a human loss and it could be felt for generations.

"You don't get another chance at it next Saturday or Tuesday."

Keeping the faith in Parky

Episode 11 might be titled 'Sack the Gaffer', but it ends up being anything but that as Phil Parkinson really begins to win the community and its supporters over.

Results begin to go the right way as the Reds approach January and Parky opens up about his time being sacked for the first time as manager (at Hull) and how he bounced back.

He says he can sense 'the passion for the club' in the Wrexham community and is determined to make it all a 'success'.

Rob seeks some advice from his homeland

Mr McElhenney takes a trip back home in episode 11 to visit the Philadelphia Eagles.

There, he listens to some top advice from the American Football club's owner, Jeffrey Lurie, who tells him to 'just enjoy every minute of it'.

He adds that Rob should 'not shy away from really tough decisions'.

Rob is then seen watching the Wrexham v Wealdstone match in a pub with friends in Philadelphia and it ends in a 0-0 draw - TYPICAL!
