A SHOPLIFTING father and son have been fined after they made off with more than £100 in cosmetics from a Wrexham shop.

Brian Moore, aged 58, of St Michaels Close in Ruabon, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday alongside his son, 30-year-old Ryan Moore of Fron Goch in Ruabon.

Both admitted that on August 10 at Eagles Meadow in Wrexham, they jointly stole cosmetics from Boots to the value of £103.93.

James Neary, prosecuting, told the court that staff at the store became aware of the defendants after they were spotted putting items in a bag.

They were reported to CCTV operators, who then saw them walking down the street.

Both were stopped and the items were recovered and returned to the store.

Ryan Moore made no comment to police, but his dad accepted they had been there and he'd stolen items.

Catherine Jagger, defending, said the offence had been unsophisticated. The father had made it clear he stole the items to sell in order to buy food, she added.

On behalf of Ryan Moore, Ms Jagger said there had been somewhat less evidence against him but by his guilty plea he had accepted his involvement in the offence.

"He said it was a moment of madness," she added.

"In the past he has had issues with drug abuse and I was sad to note 12 months ago or so, he fell prey to heroin use but is back on monthly injections and is under the auspices of the Elms and other organisations which assist him."

District Judge Owen Gerallt Jones handed down a fine of £100 to each of the defendants, as well as a £40 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
