IF YOU'RE anything like me, then you will by now be patiently waiting for every Thursday to come around.

That is because the gripping 'Welcome to Wrexham' series is being released two episodes at a time on that day weekly via Disney Plus.

The series mainly follows the takeover of Wrexham AFC by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds - but it also shines a spotlight on the community and the people within it.

As well as that, it gives a rare insight into the lives of Wrexham AFC players and coaches.

Here are five things I learnt from the latest episodes of the series (episodes seven and eight) ...

1. The history of Wales - and how it all led to its 'most important moment'

Episode seven is described as a 'very special' one by Rob as it solely focuses on all things Welsh.

And it's quite educational too. In fact, even if you really don't like football, you will find this episode to be useful in terms of learning more about Wales and its past troubles.

John Green takes us on a trip through the roots of Wales from Llewelyn the Last and Owain Glyndwr to the Rebecca Riots, the importance of St David's Day and even the powerful 'Yma O Hyd' song which is now synonymous with the national football team.

That segment ends with the 'most important moment in history of Wales', aka when Rob and Ryan took over at the Racecourse!

2. Episode seven has potential to be massive boost for Welsh language

PIC: Maxine Hughes is no stranger to Rob and Ryan!

Aside from the usual joking around you would expect from Rob and Ryan by now, episode seven really does deliver an important message.

It highlights the fact that the Welsh language is well and truly on the up.

Joined by Maxine Hughes - who previously rose to fame through an ad alongside the duo - Rob and Ryan take to the kitchen to discuss lamb cawl and have a go at making their own Welsh Cakes, or 'Picau ar y Maen'.

While doing so, Maxine puts their Welsh language skills to the test in a segment called 'Welsh or Else'.

Here are just some of the words used by the pair; Fforc (Fork), Cymysgu (Mix), Cylch (Circle), Ofnadwy (terrible), Twmffat (idiot).

There's no telling what exposure on that level could do for the Welsh language, but one thing is for sure, it will surely grab people's attention.

3. Charlotte Church is a fan!

Yes, that's right, one of Wales' finest singers even makes a special guest appearance in episode seven!

The 36-year-old Soprano appears at the end of the episode when Rob and Ryan don their fancy blue suits for the 'Wales Late Night' segment.

Church performs two beautiful renditions, firstly a Wrexham favourite - 'Men of Harlech' - and then the Welsh national anthem; 'Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau'.

She says to Rob and Ryan: "I would like to thank you both on behalf of everybody in Wales."

Rob replies: "The warmth and embrace we have felt from everyone in Wales, not just in Wrexham, has been overwhelming."

4. Aaron Hayden cuts his own hair!

The Premier League footballers may be used to getting their own barbers round for that all-important trim, but Wrexham is far away from the glitz and the glam of that world it seems.

On episode eight, defender Aaron Hayden can be seen cutting his own hair in a makeshift mirror he made pre-match, describing it as 'therapeutic'.

In an open and honest interview in his own home, Hayden also talks about 'struggling' with his confidence and feeling like he's 'let people down'.

It's a side to the game you don't see often, but it's a side that's being portrayed so well through Welcome To Wrexham.

5. Rob and Ryan feel the away day blues just like the rest of us!

From pre-match 'nerves' to post-match 'heartbreak', the reality of football certainly hits home for Rob and Ryan in episode eight.

In this one, Rob and Ryan make their 12 and 6-hour flights respectively to London ahead of the trip to Maidenhead United - which was the first Wrexham match that the pair ever attended.

It also shows the Wrexham fans making the four-hour trip down South on the coach.

But, as we discover, it doesn't end well for the Reds as - despite coming back to 2-2 after being 2-0 down early on, a 3-2 defeat eventually ensues.

Rob and Ryan get the real away day experience as they're booed by Maidenhead fans on their way into the York Road Stadium.

The episode ends with the long journey home after a defeat - something that all of us football fans have had to endure down the years!

But, as Rob puts it; "You can't taste the sweet, until you've tasted the sour, I guess."
