A military tattoo event is coming to Wrexham next month to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the 40th anniversary of The Falklands conflict.

The British International Tattoo will present “A Reel of Remembrance” – A Live Spectacular on Saturday, October 22 at Coleg Cambria Yale Campus.

A military tattoo is a performance of music or display of armed forces.

The performance will take place on Saturday, October 22 at 7.30pm.

Producer, Gareth Williams said: “It’s brilliant to be able to bring this show to Wrexham. It’s a garrison city so it ties in nicely with the military theme we’ve got going on alongside all the regimental associations and the army involved with the college helping us to produce it.

“It’s become a real Wrexham event really – which is brilliant.

“We did a scaled back version of the show last year at Coleg Cambria because of Covid, the army came along to see it and really enjoyed it, and wanted us to do something bigger and better, so this year is definitely bigger and better. The plan is to build on it again next year by potentially taking the show to the barracks or a nearby castle.”

When asked what sparked his interest in military tattoos, Mr Williams said: “When I was four, I was taken to a big tattoo event at Earls Court, London. It was a huge event, and I was completely mesmerised – it was massive, and I got really interested in it. I always wanted to get involved, so I raised the funds to put on my own event and it’s grown from there really.”

'A Reel of Remembrance' will take audience members on a musical journey through each decade of The Queen’s reign featuring a vast array of performances from The Regimental Band and Corps of Drums of The Royal Welsh, The Regimental Mascots of The British Army, The Royal Welch Fusiliers Corps of Drums, The Military Wives Choir with a special performance of Gary Barlow’s Sing, The Commonwealth Choir, Soloist Ava Gordon Butler, direct from appearing in the lead role in Matilda, The Musical British International Tattoo Pipes and Drums, Liverpool Concert Orchestra and Choir, Military PT and Drill Displays, Batala Bangor representing The Commonwealth, Emma May School of Irish Dance, the Ellesmere Port Sea Cadet Band and many more.

The unique performance is non-profit, and all the money will go back into veteran charities and regimental associations and will see local stalls and businesses in attendance as a way to support the Wrexham economy.

Mr Williams added: “Tickets are now on sale, but we are still looking for sponsorship and anyone to get involved from a fundraising point of view. It’s all very much appreciated if someone wants to get involved that way - which includes, of course, buying a ticket for the event which will take place at Coleg Cambria in their new campus right in the middle of Wrexham.”
