A HOLYWELL man has had his jail time extended following an attack on two police officers and a pubgoer.

Liam Davies, of Nant Y Coed, appeared at Mold Crown Court via video link from prison.

The 22-year-old had previously been convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, all of which took place on March 26 at Bagillt.

Alexandra Carrier, prosecuting, told the court that victim Jack Jones went to the Stag Inn pub on the evening of March 25.

At around 11am, he became aware of a commotion in the smoking area - which was an argument between the landlord and the defendant, who had been asked to leave.

At around 12.45am, Mr Jones was made aware of an "altercation" outside the premises, and went out to see that it involved the defendant and a female.

Mr Jones tried to get the defendant away from her, but both men landed on the concrete.

As he tried to restrain the defendant, Davies bit Mr Jones' upper bicep, following which the defendant punched him twice to the mouth and chin. He then bit him to the upper temple area of his head.

Police found the defendant at marshland near Station Road, where he told them he was "going out for a swim."

Officers detained him for his own safety, but the defendant became abusive and threatened to drown himself numerous times.

He lay on his back and refused to move, attempting to hit his head on sharp rocks.

"The last option I have is to bite you officer," he told them, "but I don't want to.

"Any fingers on me, they're getting bit."

He also threatened to bite the officers' noses off.

Eventually he was taken into custody, but along the way he did bite one officer on the arm and caused another to fall and sustain injury.

Ms Carrier said Davies was sentenced to 81 months in jail in June this year in relation to a class A drugs conspiracy, which is why he appeared via the link from custody.

Alan Williams, defending, told the court his client was a working man who carried on working right up to the time of sentence on the drugs matters.

He said Davies had completed a drug and alcohol course and said he had entered his guilty pleas to the assaults in a very timely manner.

Judge Rhys Rowlands jailed the defendant for a total of 16 months, to run consecutive (in addition to) his ongoing 81 month sentence for the drugs offences.
