A MAN who witnessed a fatal crash is calling for authorities to do more to make the road safer.

Andy McCann, from Bangor-on-Dee, is campaigning for road safety measures on the A525 near the village.

He was witness to a fatal crash in on the A525 Hamner early this summer.

"I saw it happen, and immediately rushed to try and help the driver - but he was already dead," Mr McCann said.

"Witnessing something like as horrrific as that stays with you forever. There are so many tragic stories to tell about this particular stretch of road."

The Leader: The A525 has been criticised for its "poor" road markings. The A525 has been criticised for its "poor" road markings.

Mr McCann wants Wrexham County Borough Council to do more to make the road safer.

"As you can see the road markings and road conditions are poor," he said.

"Some parts of the road have no road markings at all, something which has to change. There are hedgerows close to junctions which need to be cut back, as well."

The Leader:

"It’s only a matter of time before we have another accident on the A525. It’s a regular occurrence to hear the emergency services pass."

He continued: "Whilst A483 dual carriageway passing through Wrexham has 50mph, the majority of the A525 Bangor on Dee to Whitchurch remains at national speed limit 60mins with many hazardous junctions, poor visibility, poor road condition and poor signage."

The Leader:

The GoSafe van has been attending the road near Cross Lanes, catching a "whopping" number of motorists speeding this year. But Mr McCann believes the road should be subject to an average speed camera.

"There needs to constant checking of people's speeds," he said.

"So many vehicles fly down this road at well in excess of 60mph. I think it's by far one of the most dangerous roads in Wrexham."

WCBC has been approached for comment on the matter.
