A school in Flintshire have been left 'speechless' following an incident of vandalism in their forest school area.

Last week, Queensferry CP school discovered that individuals had broken into the property and had ripped out a number of building poles in the forest school.

The poles, which had been cemented into the ground, provided the foundation for a number of lessons and activities for the pupils to experience.

The forest school area at Queensferry CP plays a big part in the curriculum, with weekly lessons taught in the space.

Vikki Hughes has been the forest school lead at the primary, with the project being developed over the last 10 years.

The recent incident has left staff scratching their heads wondering why anyone would want to damage school property.

A school spokesperson said: "We can't get our head around it, why would someone go and vandalise something that children use.

"It's almost impossible to explain.

"We try to do a lot for the children in the community, and the school is the heart of the community too, so we're left speechless as to why someone would do this."

The school are unlikely to fix the damage before the return to school, meaning it will be out of action for a while.

They added: "The forest school is all funded through grants we've secured, it's a fantastic resource for the children to get out of the building.

"Now it is out of use, which will have a major impact on the children.

"It's heartbreaking to see what's happened and it's so difficult to explain to the children why something like this has happened.

"If anyone has any information, I hope they'd come forward."
