The National Trust has reassured guests that Erddig and Chirk Castle will be operating as normal despite the heatwave this weekend.

This week has been hit with another heatwave, after July’s record-breaking temperatures, and Amber weather warnings are in place in areas of the UK across the weekend. While not affecting North Wales, The Met Office has still forecasted a dry and hot weekend.

In some parts of Wales, temperatures could reach 34 °C on Saturday (August 13), with Wrexham forecast to hit 32°C.

Erddig and Chirk Castle, both popular during the school holidays, will be operating as normal though the weather has had an effect on the grounds.

A spokesperson for the National Trust said: “We’re open as usual at Chirk Castle and Erddig and are doing everything we can to ensure everyone has a safe visit in this extreme heat. Our teams will be keeping an eye out for visitors who may be struggling with the heat, and thinking about simple ways to support them like offering glasses of water or topping up drinks bottles.

“We work hard to keep our gardens looking beautiful year-round, but very high temperatures and extended dry conditions can take their toll. Following advice from Natural Resources Wales, our garden teams are only watering vulnerable plants, particularly newly planted and heritage plants.

“Visitors are encouraged to check our property websites for the latest information in case anything changes before visiting.”
