ARMED police and the force's helicopter were called out to a busy Chester junction on Sunday, amid a report of a gunman in the area.

The sighting was reported by the pedestrian entrance to the Little Roodee Car Park, where Castle Drive meets Grosvenor Road.

Police said they are continuing to make enquiries following their initial search of the area.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "At 8.16pm on Sunday 7 August police were called to the junction of Grosvenor Road and Castle Drive in Chester following a report of a man with a firearm tucked in his shorts.

"Armed officers with the help of the police helicopter made a search of the area. No-one was located and there were no further reports. Officers are continuing to make enquiries.
