THE school summer holiday is here yet again!
It can undoubtedly be tough keeping children entertained for the best part of seven weeks - and costly!
With the cost-of-living crisis also continuing to bite, we’ve compiled a list of things to do in and around Wrexham this August, which are FREE.
1. Free Swimming
Free swimming sessions for under 16’s are taking place this summer at Chirk, Waterworld and Gwyn Evans leisure centres, lasting up until September 4.
The free sessions will take place as follows:

Tuesdays 1-2pm
Fridays 12.30-1.30pm
Sundays 1-2pm
Gwyn Evans Leisure & Activity Centre
Tuesdays 12.30-1.30pm
Thursdays 2-3pm
Waterworld
Mondays 11am-12pm
Thursdays 2-3pm
Saturdays 3.30-4.30pm
2. Ty Pawb free activities
Ty Pawb is offering a huge list of free fun things for kids to do this summer. Their expansive activity guide outlines everything on offer ranging from Ukulele taster sessions, pattern printing, LEGO club, t-shirt printing, tote bag making and more. Booking is required.
3. Wrexham Museum
Wrexham Museum is also offering a range of exciting free drop-in activities throughout August which don’t require any booking – just turn up.

4. Free Summer Rugby Camp
Free Rugby sessions for children of all ability are on offer at Wrexham Rugby club on August 4 & 5 from 9am – 3.30pm which will also include a free lunch.

5. Children and family woodland wellbeing summer sessions
Yellow and Blue is hosting this free activity every Monday up until August 22 from 11.30 – 2pm enabling children and families to connect with nature, engage in woodland craft activities and enjoy spending time together – booking is essential.

6. Wrexham PlayDay!
Taking place at Llwyn Isaf and Queen’s Square on Wednesday August 3, from 12 -4. Playday is a chance for children across Wrexham to come together for a free messy day of fun which will include a giant sandpit, den building, go-karts, obstacle courses, sports, art, games and much more.
7. Summer reading challenges
The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer school holidays and this year the theme is Gadgeteers.
You can sign up at your local library, then all you have to do is read six library books of your choice over three visits to complete the Challenge. There are exclusive rewards to collect along the way, and it’s FREE to take part!
8. Visit one of Wrexham's parks
There's no better time to visit one of Wrexham's amazing parks with many retaining their Green Flag awards, meaning they have excellent visitor facilities, high environmental standards and commitment to delivering great quality green spaces.
Acton Park, Alyn Waters Country Park, Bellevue Park, Ponciau Banks Park, Tŷ Mawr Country Park are all great places to go for a picnic or a walk.
