A DRUNK teenager found himself in a police cell after getting "gobby" with officers in Wrexham, a court heard.

Patrick Haynes, of Moorland Avenue, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old admitted that on June 6 he was guilty, while drunk, of disorderly behaviour in Brook Street.

Sara Worland, prosecuting, told the court that police were on patrol in the centre of Wrexham at around 3.50am on the day of the offence.

They attended Brook Street, outside Atik, for public safety while the venue's "revellers" made their way out.

One young man - Haynes - immediately caught their attention.

He appeared "angry" and "animated," and could be heard to say: "I'm going to f*** him up, what the f*** are you looking at?"

Due to his behaviour, he was approached by the officers and asked to step aside, to which he replied: "Why should I?"

When he eventually stepped aside to speak, he was told he had been committing a public order offence due to his conduct.

He repeatedly disagreed, becoming more and more argumentative and told the police: "Nah, you can swear in the street."

When he became verbally abusive to the officers, he was arrested and taken to Llay.

District Judge Gwyn Jones told the defendant: "You drank a little more than was good for you, got gobby, things got out of hand and you found yourself getting a lift in a police van to Llay - would that be fair?"

"Yeah," the defendant answered.

The District Judge handed down a six month conditional discharge and ordered the defendant to pay £85 costs and a £21 victim surcharge.
