HUNDREDS of people enjoyed a fun-filled day at a carnival.

Hawarden Carnival took place on Saturday (July 10) on a sun-soaked afternoon on Gladstone playing fields.

The event returned for the first time since the Covid pandemic - and proved to be bigger and better than ever.

There were live stage music performances, donkey rides, a fun fair and shows from local gymnast, dancing and taekwondo clubs, as well as the traditional kids' football tournament.

Helen Brown, county councillor for Hawarden Aston ward, said: "I hope everyone enjoyed Hawarden Carnival, we are a small team of volunteers who dedicate our time to put this event on annually.

"It was so good to be back after a three-year break and even better to see everyone enjoying themselves

"Thank you to all of my co volunteers friends and thank you to you, our community for supporting us."

Fellow Hawarden county councillor, Ant turton, added: "What a fantastic sight to see Gladstone fields so busy for the annual Hawarden Carnival.

"After a couple of years away due to the pandemic the feel good factor in the community certainly returned with a bang. The events team worked hard to make this carnival a success and the feedback has been fantastic.

"A huge thank you to all the stall holders, live music acts who performed, Hawarden Rangers FC for running the football tournament, Hawarden Hih School for providing extra parking and all the volunteers who helped us on the day. And a special mention to Ralph Small who organised the fantastic bar for the day.

"We are already busy planning a Christmas function and next year's summer extravaganza, too."
