Year 2 Eco-Council members have been busy arranging a litter pick around their school grounds and the local park.

They used equipment from Argoed Community Council to make their local area cleaner and tidier.

The found plastic, glass bottles, dog waste bags and even a lost trainer.

If anyone would like to help the Eco-Council and take part in a litter pick of their own, litter picking equipment is available to borrow from the Argoed Community Council clerk’s office in Caffi Isa.

If you prefer to be part of a group, please join a community event in Mynydd Isa (second Saturday of the month) or New Brighton (third Saturday of the month) at 10.30am. Contact 01352 751490 for more information.

The Wrexham primary school was visited by the region's MS to talk with teachers ahead of the introduction of new Welsh Government education legislation.

Clwyd South Member of the Senedd, Ken Skates, spent an afternoon at Rhosymedre Community Primary School in his role on the Senedd's Children, Young People and Education Committee, which is monitoring the implementation of two key education reforms as they are being rolled out throughout the current Senedd term (2021-2026).

Mr Skates said: "I love visiting Rhosymedre School and it was a really productive afternoon. I'm grateful to the staff for their time and their feedback, which was incredibly helpful."

The two reforms being introduced are the Curriculum and Assessment (Wales) Act 2021 and the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018.

Mr Skates added: "The new curriculum is a shift away from what has gone before which will give schools the flexibility to design their own teaching programme within a broad national framework. The aim is to empower teachers, who know their pupils best. I believe it's an innovative approach, and it's something that was also welcomed by staff on a recent visit to Ysgol y Waun in Chirk."

The new curriculum is being introduced in primary schools in September 2022.

The Additional Learning Needs (ALN) reforms affect around one in five pupils. Under the 2018 Act, every learner with ALN will be given a statutory Individual development plan setting out their needs and what interventions they require. The new arrangements are being phased in over a three-year period from September 2021 to July 2024.

Staff, students and governors were proud to host Dr Lyn Sharratt, Wrexham headteachers and senior staff as part of a Teaching and Learning Conference at the school.

Dr Sharratt is based in Toronto University in Canada, and she has been leading a Collaborative Learning Project in Wales, based on her world-wide research and her book Clarity - What Matters most in Learning, Teaching and Leading.

Her visit to the Wrexham high school was an opportunity for her to meet leaders from across Wrexham and the local region and discuss how her work has been implemented in schools during the last three years.

During the day she showcased her ideas around Learning Walks and Talks. She, along with other visitors to the school, visited eight classrooms and looked at how her ideas have been developed in Ysgol Rhiwabon. Detailed discussion followed and schools worked collaboratively to share their work and ideas.

Headteacher Melanie Ferron Evans said: ''It was a privilege to host Dr Lyn Sharratt in Ysgol Rhiwabon and for her to work with colleagues in the Wrexham area to celebrate excellent teaching and learning ideas. I was very proud of the welcome Lyn received from our students and staff.

"We are also delighted that she plans to use some of the work from our school in her future research presentation and worldwide publications."
