A number of rail services across North Wales and the North West have been blocked this morning after the theft of electrical cable. 

Transport for Wales expect the disruptions to last the majority of the morning and admitted they didn't have a time for when services will be resumed.

The theft of signalling cables took place between Chester and Shotton and has affected routes across the Network. 

Trains will not be able to run between Rhyl and Chester, while there is a limited service between Holyhead and Rhyl.

Road transport has been requested between Rhyl and Chester, but Transport for Wales say none has been sourced. 

A spokesperson said: "Due to theft of signalling cables between Chester and Shotton all lines are blocked.

"Train services through these stations may be subject to disruption on all routes. Disruption is expected until 09:00 06/07.

"Trains will not be able to run between Rhyl and Chester. There will be a limited service between Holyhead and Rhyl.

"Road transport has been ordered for Rhyl and Chester but none has currently been sourced.

"Due to cable theft between Rhyl and Shotton all lines are currently blocked.

"The line is now also blocked between Frodsham and Warrington Bank Quay due to a signalling fault."

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line close to Shotton at 2.17am this morning following reports of cable theft.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
