A TEENAGER who threw cheese at his mother and hit a police officer has been handed a community order.

Brandon Jones, of Beech Terrace in Ruabon, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old admitted that on June 10, at his address, he assaulted a police officer.

Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, told the court that officers were called to the address by Jones' mother after reports of a disturbance.

Jones was smashing up his bedroom and she was concerned for his welfare, the court heard.

When the police arrived he became abusive, telling them "get the f*** out of my house," before going to the fridge and taking a packet of cheese which he threw at his mother.

At that point officers grabbed his arms in an effort to restrain him, but he struggled and swung his arms around in a frenzy.

He threw a punch at one officer, but it didn't make contact.

A second punch did however, striking the officer in the forehead.

Eventually Jones was restrained and handcuffed.

Lorraine McClure told the court: "I represented him at the police station. He was sorry.

"He unfortunately was very upset with his mum.

"He's had time to think about his actions and he knows what he did was wrong.

"He simply wanted to push the officers away from him, but they were there to try to help him."

District Judge Gwyn Jones told the defendant: "This was an unpleasant incident at the family home.

"It is clear your behaviour was of some concern to your mother, who had to call the police.

"You were not very happy when the police came, and you then showed that frustration towards your mum by throwing the cheese.

"You were so vexed, that you were not able to listen to the views of those officers, who were there to try and protect your mum."

The District Judge handed him a 12 month community order, with 140 hours of unpaid work.

Jones must also pay compensation of £400 to the officer and £85 in costs.
