Mold town centre’s empty shop vacancy rate is currently less than 6% which is significantly lower than the rest of the country.

The town has welcomed over 50 new or expanded businesses in the last two years - the latest of which is Meraki Beauty Ltd.

Owners Melissa Watkinson and Monica Jones are delighted to be opening up their very own salon and enjoyed plenty of support from clients, family and friends at their official opening event.

Melissa said: "After having my son Leo, I was working in a supermarket and the hours didn’t fit in with my family commitments, so I decided to train as a lash artist and I have to say it's been one of the best decisions of my life.

"I initially started using my spare room as a salon and it was whilst I was doing a client’s lashes that I noticed her amazing nails and she told me that Monica had done them, afterwhich I met up with Monica and we hit it off straight away.

"After a while we decided to go into business together, so I took the plunge and quit my job at the supermarket and went self employed full-time. Monica and I have been in business together for the last four years, renting rooms in a couple of salons in the town.

"Over the years we’ve built up a loyal client base, so when the shop unit at 84 High Street (former Tammy’s Barbers) became available we decided to take the next step and go for it and Meraki Beauty was born and we are so pleased with the transformation of the salon.”

Monica said: "I have been working in the beauty industry since 2014 working and I went self employed in 2018, at the age of only 21. When I met Melissa I was working in a salon in Mold. We both have the same drive and determination which is what you need to make a successful business together.

"We decided on the name Meraki Beauty because both our names begin with M and also Meraki means ‘to do something with passion, with absolute devotion, with undivided attention’ and is how we both feel about our work.

Mayor of Mold Councillor Haydn Jones said: "I was delighted to be asked to officially open the new salon and it was a pleasure to meet Melissa and Monica. Both ladies are very welcoming and you can see they are passionate about what they do. The salon has a great modern vibe to it, my wife Liz was very impressed.”
