A WREXHAM drug dealer who attempted to run away from police when 'caught red-handed' has avoided a jail sentence.

Alister Karlikowski, 22, of Parkhill Avenue, Gwersyllt, appeared at Mold Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday, June 8.

He had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of possession with intent to supply a class B drug.

Anna Price prosecuting told the court how the offence took place on April 21, 2021.

Police had been patroling St George's Crescent in Wrexham when they saw what they believed to be three men acting 'suspiciously'.

One of the three men was spotted handing Karlikowski cash before the defendant handed over a 'wrap' in what police officers called an 'obvious drug transaction'.

As the officers made their way towards the men, all three ran off.

Karlikowski discarded the bag he was wearing, while one of the other men threw a package into nearby bushes.

The defendant was caught by police and both the bag and the package were recovered also.

The foil wraps and lozenge-type packages, containing both MDMB (spice) and ADB (cannabinoid) plant-type substances, discovered by officers were said to have a street value of between £209 and £843.

Two mobile phones were also recovered, with one found to contain messages linked to the sale of drugs.

Defending Karlikowski, James Coutts said that drugs had 'clearly been an issue in his life for quite some time'.

However, he added that the defendant had been 'taking some steps' to address these issues and had told Mr Coutts that there had been a dramatic decrease in his drug use of late and that he had also secured a job.

Sentencing Karlikowski Judge Rhys Rowlands said the defendant had been 'caught red-handed' by police.

He added that the 'good work of police officers' that day 'seemed to bring you to your senses'.

Karlikowski was handed an eight-month prison sentence which was suspended for 18 months. He must also undergo a 20-day rehabilitation activity programme.
