Plans have been revealed which could see nearly 40 new houses being built in a village on the edge of Wrexham County Borough.

The Pridding Farming Partnership has set out its intention to apply to develop an area of agricultural land opposite the Bellis Brothers Farm Shop in Holt.

The owners of the 4.26-acre site off Wrexham Road have launched a consultation ahead of submitting formal proposals to create a total of 39 properties on it.

It comes as work is being carried out by Castle Green Homes to build 24 new homes on a neighbouring field.

Planning consultants acting on behalf of the applicants claimed the latest scheme would help to address a claimed lack of new houses available in the area.

Representatives from J10 Planning said: “The UK is facing a housing crisis, with a chronic shortage of new homes and insufficient homes are being built and supply/delivery is falling short of government targets.

“Wrexham needs new homes. As part of its emerging Local Development Plan, which guides future development in the borough to 2028, the council has outlined a requirement for some 8,000 new homes across the borough.

“This site has already been identified in their plan as being able to provide housing for local people in Holt.

“The Local Development Plan is expected to be adopted this year and new homes in Holt will help the council to meet its housing needs target.”

They added: “We believe this site is the right site for Holt and that the applicant’s investment in the design and technical material in addressing site considerations provides for a high-quality site solution.

“But we want to ensure it is the right type of development, delivered in the right way and offering the right benefits for the local community.”

According to the proposals, the scheme will provide a mixture of housing types including affordable homes.

The applicants said it would also deliver new routes for pedestrians and areas of public open space.

The pre-application consultation runs for 28-days with any comments required to be submitted by no later than June 23, 2022.
