STOCKPORT County fans aimed a cheeky dig at Wrexham AFC by flying a banner over the Racecourse during the latter's National League play-off semi-final match on Saturday (May 28).

Wrexham missed out on promotion once more following a 5-4 thriller which resulted in a last-gasp extra time goal sending Grimsby Town through to the play-off final against Solihull Moors.

Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElehenney were in attendance, as were comedians Rob Beckett and Lloyd Griffith.

But, it was something else up in the sky which captured the attention of the BT Sport camera crew ahead of kick-off.

As the teams warmed up, the cameras panned above the Racecourse where a small plane was spotted with a banner trailing behind it.

The banner read: "SCFC champions cheers thank you evf x," in reference to Stockport's status as champions and their manager Dave Challinor's catchphrase.

Wrexham of course missed out on the National League title to Stockport on the final day of the normal season, meaning they had to have another attempt at the play-off's.

BT Sport Football posted the following video of the plane being flown over the Racecourse on Saturday.

But it wasn't to be once more as they were beaten by a spirited Grimsby Town side at the Racecourse.

Next season will mark 15 years in the National League for Wrexham and Saturday was the fifth time the club has failed to go up through the play-off's.
