A NORTH Wales castle, guarded by its very own fire-breathing dragon, has been sold.

Castell Gyrn in Ruthin boasts six bedrooms, eight reception rooms and five bath/shower rooms was up for sale with an asking price of £1.75m.

The castle was designed by architect John Taylor, with construction taking 17 years, from 1977 to 1994.

Greeting visitors at the castle gates is its most iconic feature - a gas-powered, fire-breathing dragon carved from 200-year-old wood.

The sale was secured by property experts Landwood Group after the building fell into receivership.

Helen Jude, Director of Property at Landwood Group, said: “We’re delighted to have secured a buyer for this truly unique property after being appointed joint fixed charge receivers.

“Before we were instructed, Castell Gyrn had been on the market for four years. The property was also in need of repair after being left vacant for a prolonged period.

“Yet despite these challenges, our team of experts were able to secure a sale. We look forward to this great home being restored to its former glory.”
