The pupils in Years 1 and 2 at the school, recently concluded their 'Flying High' topic, which was based on the story of Peter Pan.

As part of their topic work, pupils learnt about the links between Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and about the valuable care the hospital provides.

They used their research to create a video for families to raise awareness of the work of the hospital, and they also sent letters to GOSH to share their intention to fundraise.

Staff and pupils enjoyed spending time planning a 'Pirates and Pixies' day, where donations from 1p to a £1 could be given, so pupils and staff could wear costumes and enjoy Peter Pan-themed activities.

Local business, Delta Academy of Dance and Performing Arts, supported the day by providing staff with costumes and props.

The total raised was £134.58.

Schools in the Dee Valley Federation took part in a Ready Steady Read event.

The schools, Ysgol Pentre, Ysgol Froncysyllte, and Ysgol Y Garth, have taken part in a Ready Steady Read event with Laura Rowlands from Usborne Books.

Children were asked to complete a sponsored read and they raised and amazing £623.44, which was spent on books for the schools.

It was an amazing opportunity to get books for each school, along with encouraging reading in pupils.

Anyone that is interested in either a sponsored read or a book fair, can contact Laura at tali1981uk@hotmail.co.uk
