AN animal rescue is appealing for support in treating a cat found in a "very bad way".

Hundreds of people shared a photo of a cat seen wandering around the Leeswood area.

The cat, which was visibly in poor health, was captured in a shed and taken in by Jackson's Animal Rescue in Padeswood, near Mold.

The rescue centre has named the male cat 'Maverick' and is doing all it can to save his life.

The Leader:

Jackson's Animal Rescue posted on its Facebook page earlier today saying: "He’s in a very bad way, his mobility is poor, however, there are no obvious breaks.

"He’s hugely dehydrated, emaciated, and has actual nests of fleas all over him. We suspect his mobility issues are due to him being so weak, or perhaps old injuries.

"He is not stable enough to x-ray yet. He is also deaf and likely blind."

It added: "Many rescues would have instantly put this poor boy to sleep and that wouldn’t be an incorrect decision at all, but we have agreed with our vet to give him 24 hours of a warm bed, good food, and a clean, and see how he does.

"He’s surprisingly alert considering his state. He’s had fluids this morning and we will continue with this, he’s had flea treatment, and he’s tucking in to the very best food for critically ill cats.

"We make absolutely no promises at all to this poor cat, the likelihood is that he won’t make it, but we feel that we owe it to him to try, and if nothing else, he will have had a day in a cosy bed with lots of love."

The Leader:

If you’d like to donate towards Maverick's care, and the care of the many other strays Jackson's helps, you can do via its Facebook page

Jackson's said: "Thank you so much to all the people who looked out for him last night and contacted us to get him to safety."
