WREXHAM and Flintshire will celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee later this year, with street parties having already been approved in both counties.

There will be many events and activities celebrating the Jubilee across the UK Commonwealth and beyond in the months leading up to the special extended bank holiday weekend between Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June.

Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service.

Both Wrexham and Flintshire Council say they have already approved applications to host parties in both counties.

Both Councils have confirmed that at least 16 parties will take place, although they cannot disclose where they will take place due to confidentiality.

Wrexham Council says it has approved 5 applications to host street parties so far, while Flintshire has approved 11.

One area which has publicly announced its intentions to celebrate the occasion is Holywell, where the town council is planning an extravaganza.

Plans for the day so far include an artisan market, bands including headline act Royalty, fairground rides, a Town Crier, Free face-painters and an afternoon tea party for residents of local care homes.

A Lighting of the Beacons will take place Greenfield docks for 9.45pm.

Holywell Town Council is also on the lookout for a circus skills act or an activities stall such as hook a duck/ring throwing etc, possibly a photo booth to be set up on the day.
