The highly anticipated cost of living support is due to start being paid out across Wrexham this month.

The Welsh Government announced the support earlier this year in response to soaring energy bills, with payments administered by local authorities for all households in council tax bands A to D.

Councils have until September 30, to pay the £150 rebate to all eligible residents and the one-off payment does not need to be repaid.

How to save money on your energy bills

It is available for all households in bands A to D including those who receive Council Tax Reductions, even if their council tax bill is less than £150 for the year.

How will it work in Wrexham?

A Wrexham County Borough Council spokesman said: “On February 15 the Welsh Government announced that a £150 cost-of-living support payment will be provided to all households who either:

  • live in properties in Council Tax bands A-D
  • receive a Council Tax reduction - who live in properties in Council Tax bands (A-I)

“A discretionary scheme will also be setup to help support other households who may be struggling but do not fit into the above criteria.

“We understand that people in Wales are facing very real cost-of-living crisis.”

How will the council tax rebate be paid?

In Wrexham, people who pay their council tax by Direct Debit will have the £150 paid into their bank account automatically.

A council spokesperson said: “If we hold the relevant information about your household to make a payment, payments should begin from April.

“If your household is eligible and extra information is needed you will need to complete a short registration form.

“We will publish full guidance and the registration form as soon as it becomes available.

“Be mindful of emails or texts from suspicious sources offering information on the scheme. It's often a scammer trying to steal your information.”
