Here are the latest furry friends on the lookout:

First up is Harley

The Leader: Harley Harley

He is around 3-4 years old and is a Mastiff-type dog who was a stray.

Almost Homes said: “It is sadly clear that this girl is an ex-breeder who, once they were done with her, became a stray! This situation is another reminder why you must see the living conditions of pups and parent when you go see a puppy, if you decide to shop and not adopt.

“Since joining us, Harley's confidence has grown daily and she is starting to trust people really quickly. Whilst we are slowly building up her walks and she has 'little and often', Harley is now very excited when we show her the lead.

“Once Harley trusts you, she adores you! You’ll get big dog cuddles and slobbery kisses. She’s slowly learning what a toy is and plays when she thinks no one is watching. She’s spotless in her kennel and loves her bed - which we've ensured is big and extremely comfy.”

Harley has passed a health check and has been spayed. Her weight and muscle are building up nicely and she knows a lot of basic commands and walks well in her head.

Harley is happy walking with another dog on lead without an issue though she hasn’t been off the lead with others yet. She will jump in the car and is ok when travelling.

There will be updates on Harley as Almost Home learn more about her and her needs however, they think Harley is best suited to a home where she is the only animal and a household with large breed experience.

Yasmine

The Leader: YasmineYasmine

She is a greyhound who arrived recently after an arduous journey from Ireland. She is settling well in her new kennel surroundings.

Yasmine is not yet 2 years old and was given to Haven Rescue as a failed coursing hound. She travels well in the car and walks well on lead. She is getting used to traffic too. Yasmine is spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped.

Yasmine is a confident, outgoing, friendly girl and has been happily around other dogs however has not been fully tested off lead with other breeds.

Almost home said: “She has a low prey drive, which would explain why she was given up and initial indications suggest she may be cat friendly (subject to appropriate introductions and further testing) and we are shortly to test her with small dogs.

“We will continue her assessment and update any applicants however we feel Yas would be an ideal greyhound for a first time owner who has done greyhound research.”

Holly

The Leader: HollyHolly

She is a smaller greyhound and will be 3 years old on  July 1. She travels well in the car and walks beautifully on a lead.

Holly is an ex-racing greyhound who didn’t make the grade and is a little wary of people to begin with but is soon craving attention.

Almost Home said: “She has happily been around other dogs but not off lead with any other breed. This girl is a little bit sensitive and desperate for human companionship and a forever couch to call her own.  We have seen the beginnings of a playful and cheeky nature from both Holly and Yas.

“We also think Holly would be suitable for a first-time greyhound owner who has done their research and will continue Holly’s assessment and update any applicants. Dog savvy children only please.”

Apollo

The Leader: ApolloApollo

Apollo is an Akita cross (possibly with a husky), who will be 3 years old in August and was a stray.

Almost Homes said: “This lad clearly hasn’t seen much of the world however, now that he is seeing it, he’s taking it all in his stride. Apollo loves his walks and learning about new things. He is now trained in a Gencon lead (gentle control) and is a lot easier to walk!  He has been brilliant with the other dogs he has met. So far we have only done on-lead meetings with others however there have been no negative signs from him and we will continue this socialisation.”

Apollo has passed a health check and is booked in for neutering.

His fitness is increasing and so is his muscle mass so he will look and feel so much better in a  few weeks.

Almost Home added: “Apollo loves being with you and once he knows you, he gives you the best greeting. His playful side is coming out more and more daily. He travels well in the car and happily jumps in and out.

“We are preferably looking for a home with an understanding of large or similar breeds. Someone will be very lucky to adopt this lad.”

Belle

The Leader: BelleBelle

Belle is a medium-sized crossbreed who is approximately 4 years old and a tripod - which means she is missing a leg. This doesn't affect her in the slightest.

Belle is described as a fun and active girl who loves life and people but, most of all, zoomies!

Belle was a stray and has been in a foster home where she is doing well and improving daily.

Almost Home said: “It is clear Belle has been in a home before….she’s more than happy in the house and adores her sofa time! Overnight, she is clean and quiet. Belle loves playing with her toys and enjoys her walks.

“Belle has been good with other dogs but we are assessing this further. We are looking for an active home for Belle, with humans who understand her needs.”
