A FLINTSHIRE man has been jailed for five months for obstructing police officers out on duty.

Bradley White, 24, of North Street in Shotton, appeared before Mold Crown Court on Tuesday, April 5.

He had previously failed to appear at a hearing before pleading guilty to one count of obstructing a constable in the execution of duty at Mold Crown Court on March 15.

Sarah Badrawy, prosecuting, told the court that the incident took place in the early hours of the morning on July 2 of last year.

Police contables Riley and Nolan had been out on patrol in the Shotton area keeping a particular eye on an alleyway said to be a hotspot for drug dealing.

They saw White and his brother coming through the alleyway and attempted to stop and search them.

The court heard how the pair both became angered by this and White's brother was placed in handcuffs as a result - which only angered the defendant further.

Bodycam footage caught by the constables and shown to the court showed the brothers both swearing at the officers and White becoming more and more irate.

One of the officers said they 'felt threatened' by White due to his anger and him being 'considerably larger' than them.

White was pepper sprayed at the scene and threatened with a tazer before fleeing. He was later found at 2.15am and checked over after being sprayed.

Henry Hills, defending White, said he 'fully accepts responsibility' for the incident and 'now accepts he was wrong'.

The court heard how, moments before the incident, White had just returned to Shotton after taking his brother to hospital for a mental health check-up via taxi.

The pair were said to have returned 'in an emotional state'.

Hills told of how White knew his 'response was over the top' and that he was 'just trying to be protective of his brother'.

The matter with his brother was discontinued at Magistrates Court.

In his closing remarks, Judge Niclas Parry said: "You spent November of last year to March of this year evading justice.

"You showed utter disregard and a total lack of respect to officers out on duty that night. It was a sustained incident of abuse and you must realise that you cannot continue to behave in this anti-social manner."

White was sentenced to five months in prison, of which he is expected to serve half that time.
