Talented football players from Wrexham are fulfilling their dreams and leaving for Dallas to compete in a tournament.

Leah Burke, 16, and Abby Sheriff, 18, were selected to play across the pond in a 12-day trip, representing Everton Football College and are finally packed and ready to go on Tuesday (April 5).

The girls have played together throughout their football careers, starting with Wrexham AFCs under 14s team, and currently play for Everton, where they are enrolled in the football college learning about the sport.

Both girls have worked hard to get to where they are and are determined to get into professional football.

The girls have raised over £2,000 to fund their trip - split equally between the two - which was organised by Brymbo Lodge FC who the girls are involved with helping in training.

The fundraiser and presentation, held at Brymbo Sports and Social Complex was well attended, and people showed their support for Leah and Abby by donating items that were auctioned.

Mike Wells was the bingo caller on both nights and was thanked for his time.

Amanda Ellis-Burke, Leah’s mum, said: “The local community of Wrexham and Brymbo are absolutely amazing, and the girls can’t thank them enough."

Amanda and Leah added: “Thanks everyone for making the dream possible.”

Paula Sheriff, Abby’s mum said: “(Abby) is excited to be going and grateful for the opportunity and they hope to bring the cup back!

“Thanks to everyone who supported them, and they are living their dreams.”

They will be living with an American family whose daughter is also playing in the cup with them, which will help them get to know people throughout the trip. They have already met the family through a video call.

Good luck girls!
