Almost 200 guests attended a glittering ball, raising £20,000 in aid of the Wrexham Maelor Children’s Ward.

The Rainbow Ball was held at Carden Park Resort and Spa, and 195 guests enjoyed a champagne reception, three course dinner and musical entertainment.

The event was supported by principal sponsor SP Energy Networks, and reception sponsors SG Estates, alongside other supporters.

The energetic four piece outfit Big Beat band donated their performance that got everyone dancing, and they also did a well-received DJ set.

There was a silent auction with a variety of exciting prizes up for grabs such as sports and football memorabilia, and a live auction on the night with lots such as two tickets to attend the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Concert taking place at Sandringham in June.

Lisa Harvey, lead nurse for technology depended children, said: “The night was a huge success and surpassed all our expectations.

“The ball had been delayed because of the pandemic three times, so it was fantastic to see everyone have such a good time.”

She added: “All the profit will go to buy medical equipment for the children and young people to enhance the patients’ experience on the ward.

“I’d like to thank all the ward staff who helped organise the event, it was a huge team effort, for example the staff between them managed to sell 5,000 raffle tickets, which is just phenomenal.”

Liam O’Sullivan, SP Manweb director of SP Energy Networks added: “We are delighted to be supporting the Wrexham Maelor Children’s Ward ball as principal sponsor for the third time running.

"SP Energy Networks are committed to engaging with and supporting the local communities we serve.

"We are extremely proud to take part in raising vital funds for the children treated on the ward and their families.

"The ward staff have worked extremely hard over the last two years and we’re so thankful for the support they provide to the local community.”
