A PAIR of Wrexham-based bus drivers saved the life of another having a heart attack.

On Sunday, Stephen Bustin, a driver for Lloyds coaches, suffered a heart attack at Wrexham bus station.

The 59-year-old was in the gangway of his bus when it happened, unable to reach the button to open the doors.

But thankfully, two Arriva bus drivers, Matt Jones and Daniel Johnson, were nearby and heard the father-of-five's cries for help, rushing to his aid.

After opening the bus' doors, without hesitation they drove it to hospital.

Upon arrival at Wrexham Maelor Hospital's emergency department, Stephen was resuscitated four times, and shocked using a defibrillator to get his heart working again.

His wife, Tracy Bustin, said: "The hospital said he is lucky to be alive, he wouldn’t have made it if had it not been for the incredible actions of the Arriva drivers.

"Also a huge shoutout to the Maelor for bringing him back, they didn’t give up on him. They rushed him on blue lights to Glan Clwyd Hospital to have two stents fitted and luckily my husband is stable and is now recovering at home."

She added: "It’s the quick thinking and acts of kindness that goes unnoticed nowadays and given what’s going on in the world, a story with a happy ending is just what everyone needs.

"What those two drivers did, we will forever be grateful for. We owe them, we want them to be recognised as the selfless heroes they really are.

"If it wasn’t for them, my husband and children’s father wouldn’t be here."

An Arriva spokesperson said: “We’re aware of the quick thinking and heroic efforts by our Arriva Wales drivers, following this frightening incident for the driver on Sunday night.

“Our drivers have been commended for their actions, we wish the gentlemen a safe and speedy recovery to full health soon.”
