An epic cycle challenge is due to get underway later this month, raising money for two good causes.

Riders are taking on another 'castle to castle' challenge in aid of Blood Cancer UK and Masonic Charities.

Having previously completed Cardiff Castle to Flint Castle, Edinburgh Castle to Flint Castle and several London to Paris bike rides, this year they plan to tackle from the Tower of London to Flint Castle, on March 21-23.

Loz Harrison, Flint branch chairman of Blood Cancer UK, said: "We are again raising vital research funds for Blood Cancer UK, a charity that funds research projects to beat all blood cancers, including Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML), for which I was diagnosed back in 2009.

"We have been raising money since 2010, predominantly through cycle rides/challenges. I am proud to say we have raised over £175,000 to help beat all blood cancers

"This year we are also raising money for Masonic Charities, in particular for the 2028 festival.

"I joined the Pegasus Lodge 9124 over 10 years ago as I realised freemasonry in North Wales is very vibrant and charity focussed.

"This year I'm joined by Yan Chan, who runs the Mountain Park Hotel in Flint.

"Yan has supported our charity for several years, for which Blood Cancer UK (Flint branch) is very grateful.

"Yan and the captain of Mountain Park golf club, Steve Allen, from Hawarden, have chosen to raise money this year for Blood Cancer UK, as well as Giddos Gift.

"Giddos gift is a child and young adults cancer charity run by friends of mine who lost their son Jordan to cancer in 2017."

Yan added: "Communities and businesses should support local charities, wherever possible, as we have seen in the last two years how difficult it has been. Without local support we would not be here as a business.

"I feel it has been a privilege and honour to support these charities going forward. When Loz contacted me to discuss the cycle challenge, I jumped at the chance."

Loz and Yan have been training hard every weekend, and with sessions in the week to make sure they are fit enough to take on the challenge.
