The winner of our Family of the Year Award say it is a “great honour” to have won the award and receive their trophy.

In December 2021 the Leader ran our Community Heroes 2021 awards which recognised individuals and organisations who work hard to made a difference in the community.

One of the categories was Family of the Year, which was awarded to the family of Andrew Edwards.

They were nominated by Andrew, who wanted the actions of his sister, Melanie, and his family to be recognised after the support they gave following his mother passing aged 77.

Andrew praised their loyal support throughout his career and was delighted that his sister Melanie could receive some recognition when he found out they had won.

They have now received their award, and Andrew said: “It’s a great honour and after what our family has been through the last couple of years, obviously losing my mother, it’s nice that the family pulled together in such trying circumstances imaginable and every day is a challenge for us.

“It’s never going to leave us, our mother passing away. It comes in waves and it’s nice to be recognised, certainly what my sister does for me and the rest of the family because without my sister, the last 14 months and other member of the family including my niece Chloë, none of us would have managed we’d have gone to wreck and ruins so its lovely.”

Well done to our Family of the Year!
