A YOUNG electrician has lost his licence after he was caught drug driving.

Luke Tait, of Palace Close in Flint, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 24-year-old admitted to driving a Renault Clio on the B5441 at Garden City when the proportion of cannabis in his blood exceeded the specified limit - as well as possession of cannabis on that occasion.

The court heard he had no less than 4 micrograms of the substance per litre of blood, the limit being 2.

Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, told the court he was stopped by police at around 1.30pm on November 12 last year and was "evasive" when asked questions.

When officers told him they were going to search the vehicle, he informed them they would find cannabis in his bag.

After the drug was found, he undertook a swipe test - which showed a positive result for cannabis.

Simon Simmons, defending, said: "He lives with his parents and has no previous convictions.

"This is his first experience of the criminal justice system.

"He needs his license for his work - he's a self employed electrician and at the time of this he'd been working in Scotland for a period of time.

"He returned and he'd had cannabis, then drove the following morning."

Mr Simmons said the conviction and inevitable disqualification meant his client no longer has his employment, so he will be signing on and looking for work locally.

Presiding Justice Major Michael James handed down fines totalling £200, as well as costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £34.

Tait received a 12 month driving ban.
