FLINTSHIRE and Wrexham communities have rallied in support of those affected by the ongoing Ukraine conflict. 

Hundreds of thousands of refugees have fled the country after Russia invaded last week. 

As the severity of the war escalates, more and more civilians are expected to flee the fighting - and people across Flintshire and Wrexham are being asked to lend a helping hand.

International organisations including Unicef, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the International Committee of the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and the International Rescue Committee currently have personnel in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, to support those suffering in the country and the rising number of displaced people who are fleeing it.

They are appealing for people to donate the following items: 

Foil survival blankets

  • Toys
  • Nappies
  • Sanitary products
  • First aid kits
  • Towels
  • Crayons
  • Sleeping bags
  • Metal cups
  • Thermal clothing
  • Children's clothing
  • Bandages
  • Hairbrushes
  • Shampoo
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toiletries

Collection points have been set up across Flintshire and Wrexham. 

You can donate the above mentioned items at the following local locations: 

  • Mold Town Hall
  • Nanny Biscuit pantries at Connah's Quay Cricket Club and and Rivertown church in Shotton.
  • Hawksbury Community Centre, Buckley
  • Dandys Topsoil (Sealand) 
  • The Red Lion, Penyffordd
  • Broughton War Memorial Institute (opposite the Co-op)
  • Saltney community centre
  • The Walk and Talk charity shop, Ffynnongroew
  • The Community Cafe, Rhosllanerchrugog 

Atik nightclub in Wrexham is also acting as a collection point between 2pm and 6pm on Thursday (March 3)

Mayor of Mold, Councillor Sarah Taylor, said: “The news coming from Ukraine is very concerning and our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine.

"People are losing their homes and loved ones as the fighting intensives and essential services like water and healthcare, are under threat. We would like to appeal for donations to be dropped off at the town hall, we will then liaise with the organisations who are arranging for the donations to be sent to the people of Ukraine.”
