RESIDENTS of Wrexham communities near the border with Cheshire are fuming after being told more works are to take place on the A483 from next week.

People living in Gresford, Marford and Rossett have been sent letters from Traffic Wales telling them that more central reserve crossover improvements along with drainage and barrier works are set to take place on the busy route.

The works between near the England border and Junction 7 in Rossett will affect both the northbound and southbound carriageways.

Resurfacing work was extended on A483 in Wrexham between Gresford and Rossett.

The works are due to start on Tuesday and are expected to last until April 6 and will involve lane closures, diversions and speed restrictions.

Notice of the works has yet to be placed on the The Welsh Government’s traffic information service for motorways and trunk roads in Wales website or distributed to the media.

The letter sent to residents and businesses about the upcoming proposed works says: "This could result in traffic disruption and a higher than usual level of noise at times, and I take this opportunity in apologising in advance for any inconvenience incurred.”

“The works will be carried out under nightly lane 2 closures in both directions (8PM-6AM), on both weeknights and weekends for the duration of the works programme. A temporary speed restriction of 50mph will be in place 24 hours a day for the duration of the works to protect the workforce and the travelling public; due to the presence of an insecure safety barrier system.”

It adds: “Full consideration has been given to the impact of the work on road users, residents and work force e.g. type of temporary traffic management (full road closures with local diversions, contra flow, lane closures etc. road space, date of works, time of works, other works etc). Information signs will be erected prior to the works advising the travelling public of the closure dates and times."

This project is separate from the work that needs to be done in 2022 on the A483 to resurface the carriageway between Gresford and Rossett.

Residents and motorists already endured weeks of delays and diversions at the end of last year while the resurfacing project was done. However, failures in the work means that it will need to be done again on a date yet to be confirmed.

Residents on a Gresford and Marford Facebook group have been expressing their frustration.

One resident posted: "What?? Any one else reading this correctly or is it me..nothing being done to road surface its only central reservation, drainage and barrier works!!"

One said: "If I'm reading this right as well this could of been done with the nightmare that has just finished. Absolute joke."

Another posted: "so why not do it with the Planned " Second attempt " at resurface. Oh hang on that means Planning and Common sense.

One post simply said: "No sleep then. Nightmare."

Another thought that the project would overrun as the previous resurfacing work did last year.

They said: "5 weeks! That will be a couple of months then."
