A WREXHAM mum has described the support shown to her fundraiser as 'overwhelming' after raising over £16,000.

Kelsey Edwards and her partner Jordan Davies, sadly lost their stillborn son, Arthur Andrew Davies, in December.

To show their appreciation to the team at the Butterfly Suite at Wrexham Maelor Hospital that supported them, the couple set up a fundraising page in aid of Sands (Stillbirth & Neonatal Death Society).

Having initially set the target at £500 (which was surpassed in minutes), the total was raised to £750, then £1,500 before eventually finishing on £16,525.

Kelsey admitted that her and Jordan were unsure about whether to put things out on social media at first, but was overwhelmed by the support shown by the Wrexham community.

She said:"We were very sceptical about putting things on social media and we were considering just telling family and close friend. Although the support we’ve received was so overwhelming in the best way.

"It’s hard with the career that Jords in because if he has a bad game its not always easy for everyone to understand the reasons why. We’ve had a really difficult time the last few months and credit to Jord, he has used it to drive him forward along with the added support from fans.

"As soon as we put it on social media, the Wrexham community and beyond were putting in donation after donation which meant the £500 target was surpassed within minutes. The fact that it went far beyond the targets was so so amazing! I was checking the go fund me page every minute and I was staggered the amount of support we received."

She added: "We are incredibly grateful for all the support that’s been given to the fundraiser and shown in this time.

"Every donation counts and matters to these charities and the work they do for families. Still births is sadly quite a growing community, so it couldn’t be more important for Sands to carry on the work they do.

"We know that Arthur has created a legacy important enough to help even just one more bereaved family."

A large portion of the donation came courtesy of Wrexham co-owners Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds and their partners Kaitlin Olsen and Blake Lively, which Kelsey described as 'incredible'.

She said:"The donation with Ryan, Rob, Blake and Kaitlin was incredible. I remember seeing £10,000 in the fundraiser and I was gobsmacked. I think with them being family people themselves it resonates and really hits home.

In that moment they weren’t celebrities, or owners of the club, they were parents. We received messages from both Ryan and Rob and they sent flowers and gifts to the house. The kindness that they showed was incredible, and selfless."

Wrexham midfielder Jordan had also praised the owners, saying: "They have dropped me and Kelsey private messages, they have sent things to the house and we can't thank them enough.

"They have let us know if there is anything we wanted and then to top it all off, they have donated to a charity that is going to be very close to our hearts for the rest of our lives.

"We are really grateful to Rob and Ryan, and Blake and Kaitlin for that, we can't thank them enough."
