MANY services in Flintshire have been suspended or are subject to change as the county feels the impact of Storm Eunice today.

Millions of people have been urged to stay at home for the day, as one of the worst storms in a generation hits the UK.

Schools, roads and businesses have shut, with major disruption to the travel network due to concerns over flying debris caused by gusts of up to 90mph because of Storm Eunice.

Here in Flintshire there is an amber weather warning, meaning decisions have been made to keep people safe.

Schools

Schools in Flintshire have moved to online learning today as a precautionary measure against Storm Eunice.

The decision to move to online learning has been taken following advice from the North Wales Strategic Command Group, which includes councils, emergency services and other organisations from across the region.

A Flintshire Council spokesman said: "The Strategic Regional Command group has just made the recommendation that ALL educational establishments in North Wales should close tomorrow to protect the safety of pupils and staff because of the significant risk to life.

"Our position in Flintshire is that all schools – local authority maintained, voluntary aided, voluntary controlled and foundation schools - should follow this direction."

Bins

All household recycling centres are closed.

All recycling and waste collections have been suspended - residents who are expecting a waste or recycling collection tomorrow are asked to not place items at the kerbside and store items securely inside the property. Recycling will be collected on the next scheduled recycling day and further information will be issued about waste collections. A catch-up is planned early next week.

Bulky waste collections operated by Flintshire Refurbs are suspended.

Nappy and AHP collections are suspended.

County parks

All Flintshire woodland sites including Wepre Park and Greenfield Valley will be closed for the duration of the storm.

Travel

All train services in Wales have been suspended by Network Rail/Transport for Wales and all school transport has been cancelled due to school premises being closed.

Members of the public are advised not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

Arriva Buses Wales said: "Storm Eunice: All services are currently running normally, we will provide further updates if the situation changes."

Flintshire Bridge

The Flintshire Bridge will be closed between 6am and 6pm.

Other services

All Flintshire Connects Centres are closed.

The reception at Ty Dewi Sant is closed.

All social services day centres are closed.
