A BED retailer has confirmed that it is set to close down its Wrexham-based store at the end of this month.

Bensons for Beds is currently situated at Unit 2 of the Border Retail Park, near the likes of Tesco and the recently opened B&M store.

However, it is now due to close down for good on Sunday, February 27 due to its lease expiring.

A spokesperson for Bensons For Beds Wrexham said: "We're sorry to announce that we will be closing our store in at Border Retail Park, Wrexham, and the last day of trading will be Sunday February 27.

"We know this will be disappointing for customers and colleagues, but sadly, our lease has expired. Customers can still shop at our Chester store."

Bensons for Beds were unable to confirm just how many jobs would be affected by the closure of their Wrexham store.

However, the spokesperson added: "Whenever we close a store, we do all we can to look after our colleagues."

The Bensons for Beds brand has been providing beds, mattresses and bedroom furniture for 72 years.

Founded as a general store in 1950 by Cyril Benson, Bensons for Beds opened the first dedicated bed centre in 1972.

The company is now based in Accrington, Lancashire, and operates as a chain of concessions and stand-alone stores.

After closing its Wrexham store later this month, it will only have one other site in North Wales - at the Mostyn Champneys Retail Park in Llandudno.

Its other sites in Wales include Cardiff, Swansea and Llanelli but it does also have stores in Chester, Wirral and Shrewsbury which are all closer for its North Wales customers.
