THE Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod (LIME) team has announced that live competitions will return to the stage later this year following a two-year break.

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, LIME competitions moved online as organisers adapted the event to keep it alive.

But, a statement published on Friday, February 4, confirmed that acts could well be set to return to the stage later this year providing that stricter Covid-19 restrictions aren't re-introduced.

There is however still the option to compete digitally as the event once again keeps itself in line with the Covid-19-affected world we now live in.

LIME is scheduled to take place from Thursday, July 7 to Sunday, July 10 of this year and will mark its 75th anniversary in the process.

The event's Executive Producer Camilla King said: "Following a two-year hiatus from live competitions, I am delighted to announce that applications to take part in the ‘Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod’, are now open!

"The main competitions are held in the 1500 capacity Royal International Pavilion, with activities on our Outside Stages, as well as public performances in the town and a number of locations across North East Wales.

"In light of continued disruptions to travel, for the first time we are introducing an option to compete digitally, which I hope will make participation in our competitions accessible to many more performers this summer.

"In addition to our new digital competing option, you may notice some other changes to our competitions this year which we hope will inspire you to come and join us for our 75th anniversary celebrations."

The Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod was established in 1947.

Pre-pandemic, around 4,000 performers and as many as 50,000 visitors converged on the town annually as well as at its International Pavilion; to sing and dance in a unique combination of competition, performance, and international peace and friendship.

Its competitions climax with the prestigious ‘Choir of the World’, which determines the best overall choir of the event.

In 2005, Luciano Pavarotti added his name to the competition in recognition of his appreciation of the festival and its influence on his career.
