A COUNCILLOR says he is 'extremely disappointed' that a 'special bin' at a country park in Wrexham was set on fire.

The incident took place at the Stryt Las Country Park in Johnstown on Tuesday, January 18.

Johnstown councillor David Bithell says the targeted bin was 'special' due to it having been used for dealing with a rat problem in the area which had been reported to him.

Local park rangers threw the bin into a nearby pond in order to distinguish the flame.

In a statement Cllr Bithell, who is also Deputy Leader of Wrexham Council said: "Extremely disappointed that the bin in Stryt Las was set on fire and destroyed - which had just been put in.

"This was a special bin for litter and for dealing with a rat problem that has been reported to me. I have reported this incident to the police and country parks. If you know who was responsible please call the North Wales Police via 101.

"Thanks to the Rangers the inner of the bin was thrown into the pond which has now been removed and repaired."

The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service say they were not called to the incident.
