Wrexham AFC fans have voted to introduce safe standing in the development of the Kop.

The Kop in the Racecourse ground is currently standing empty and has not been in use for years.

Wrexham AFC have proposed a redevelopment of the stand, and put a survey out to fans to see public opinion on what the fans would like to see done.

A total of 5,015 people completed the survey, of whom 75% voted in favour of safe standing, which would include utilising rail seating.

It is thought that the Kop would be able to hold 5,500 people and in the plans, it was proposed that 500 of this would be allocated for corporate seating.

The survey asked fans what they thought should be done with the remaining 5,000.

The stadium, which currently holds just under 11,000, would be able to increase its capacity to 16,000 with the redevelopment of the Kop.

The survey also asked fans if they were in support of Wrexham AFC buying the freehold of the Racecourse Ground from Glyndwr University, and 97% said yes.

A decisive 93% of people were also in support of the club purchasing the freehold of the Racecourse Ground from Glyndwr University and the club voluntarily providing legal assurances that the Racecourse Ground will remain the home of Wrexham AFC until at least the 31st July 2115, unless a move is necessary because the Racecourse Ground is no longer capable of meeting the club’s requirements.

The club has said it will keep fans updated on the plans and have said there is a clear mandate to move forward with the Kop redevelopment and the transfer of the freehold of the Racecourse Ground to the club.
